ABOUT US – PROJECT IMPLEMENTED
Regional and Municipal Partnerships for Youth Empowerment.
YOUTH WINGS has established strategic collaborations with regional and municipal authorities in Arusha to implement community-based creative arts, youth empowerment, and public health interventions. Through these partnerships, the organization has used sports, arts, cultural engagement, and community outreach as platforms for promoting health education, social inclusion, leadership development, and youth participation in community transformation initiatives. These collaborative efforts continue to strengthen local ownership and demonstrate YOUTH WINGS’ commitment to building inclusive, healthy, and resilient communities driven by young people across Tanzania.
YOUTH WINGS partnered with FHI 360 under the UJANA Project to support national efforts aimed at reducing new HIV infections among adolescents and young people in Tanzania. The project focused on empowering youth with comprehensive HIV prevention knowledge, life skills, sexual and reproductive health information, and access to youth-friendly health services. Through community outreach, peer engagement, and behavior change interventions, the initiative contributed to strengthening youth resilience and promoting healthier lifestyles among vulnerable populations.
Through the WISE Initiative supported by NEPAD, YOUTH WINGS implemented youth-centered civic engagement and governance interventions aimed at strengthening democratic participation among young people in Tanzania. The initiative engaged students, youth groups, and community leaders through awareness sessions, dialogue forums, and leadership development activities focused on accountability, active citizenship, and community participation. The program contributed to empowering young people with the knowledge and confidence to participate meaningfully in governance and local development processes.
YOUTH WINGS collaborated with the Tanzania Diabetes Association (TDA) under the Tanzania National Diabetes Program to address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in Tanzania. The initiative focused on increasing public awareness of diabetes prevention, early detection, and management through community education campaigns conducted across the Arusha Region. The program promoted healthy lifestyles, encouraged routine screening, and strengthened community understanding of diabetes-related risks to help reduce morbidity and mortality associated with the disease.
In partnership with Restless Development, YOUTH WINGS implemented the Kijana Wajibika Project during Tanzania’s constitutional review process between 2012 and 2014. The initiative aimed to promote constructive youth engagement, civic awareness, and informed participation in national dialogue around governance and constitutional reform.
Through civic education sessions, community dialogues, and youth engagement forums, the project strengthened young people’s understanding of civic rights, responsibilities, leadership, and public participation. The initiative also supported the formation of youth platforms and networks that enabled young people to contribute community perspectives and priorities within the broader constitutional review discussions in a peaceful, inclusive, and structured manner.
Through leadership development activities and awareness campaigns, the project promoted social responsibility, inclusive participation, and meaningful youth engagement in Tanzania’s national development processes.
YOUTH WINGS partners with FHI 360 in implementing the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) Project, funded by the US State Department (U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)). The project supports Tanzania’s efforts to achieve and sustain HIV epidemic control by strengthening HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and viral load suppression services.
Through strategic technical assistance and direct service delivery, YOUTH WINGS works to improve HIV case finding, linkage to care, retention on treatment, and access to prevention services among vulnerable and underserved populations. The project also contributes to advancing the global 95-95-95 targets while promoting community-centered and sustainable HIV programming.
With support from the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania through the Ambassador’s Fund for HIV/AIDS Relief (AFHR), a PEPFAR-funded initiative, YOUTH WINGS implemented integrated psychosocial and economic empowerment interventions for youth living with or affected by HIV. The program focused on strengthening mental health and wellbeing through counseling, peer support, and psychosocial services, while also supporting income-generating activities (IGAs) to improve household resilience and economic stability. The intervention promoted social inclusion, treatment adherence, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for vulnerable youth populations.
YOUTH WINGS is implementing the Social Safeguards and Community Health Intervention under the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure and Competitiveness (TACTIC) Project in Arusha, financed by the World Bank through the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG).
Working in partnership with Mohammedi Builders Limited and local government authorities, the intervention integrates public health and social risk mitigation measures within large-scale urban infrastructure development. Activities include HIV prevention and testing services, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) awareness, child protection sensitization, occupational health education, and drug abuse prevention targeting workers and surrounding communities.
Implementation areas include Kilombero Market, Kwa Mrombo Market, and Bondeni City (New Arusha Bus Terminal). The intervention supports compliance with the Contractor’s Environmental and Social Management Plan (C-ESMP) and the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), while strengthening community wellbeing, worker safety, and inclusive urban development outcomes.
